Book Synopsis
For several years, citizens of Osage County Oklahoma had heard talk of a great conspiracy filled with diabolical plots and masterminded by persons unknown to murder rich Osage Indians. Stories, labeling the murders a "Reign of Terror," had attracted the attention of audiences across the nation, as federal investigators attempted to identify the murderer of the wealthy Osages. Thus, residents of Osage County felt watched, and they were unsure just whom investigators would name in the conspiracy.
A 1949 comic book, entitled Steve Saunders, Special Agent, FBI, identified Bill Hale and John Ramsey in a True Crimes picture story concerning the murders. When Ramsey, the murderer of Henry Roan, complained that his name had been publically announced to identify a character in the magazine, the FBI defended its decision to release Ramsey's name based on the aggravated nature of his involvement in the crime, adding Ramsey deserved no special consideration.
