About The Author
Author bio image
Shate' L. Edwards is a dance artist, educator, and entrepreneur with a BA in Psychology from Spelman College and a MFA in Dance from Sam Houston State University.

She has a professional dance career that spans well over a decade. In that time, she's performed extensively throughout the U.S. and China, choreographed dozens of productions - several to critical acclaim, - and taught thousands of students both domestically and abroad.

Throughout her career, especially through her work as a dance professor, she's had the opportunity to mentor students from all walks of life who needed help with creating career paths that worked for them.

Coupled with her own experience of not knowing where to begin when she first embarked on her dance career journey, Shate' used her and her students' inquiries to create The Working Dancer, a resource to help pre-professional dancers successfully transition from their academic dance program into professional dance life.
