Book Synopsis
The storm that had affected so many lives in Osage County during the 1920s helped to clarify that the Osages--a once proud and strong people--were, after all, not omnipotent. The Osages suddenly found themselves easy prey to an array of uncouth oil workers, ranchers, merchants, and criminals freely taking advantage of them. Their wealth during this era foreshadowed enormous heartbreak and grief as the great storm of the 1920s unleashed its fury upon them, forever casting a dark shadow on this period of their modern history, despite their choice for a simple life on the high rolling plains of Northern Oklahoma. This volume focuses on an array of media and writers who have endeavored to place their tragedy into the history of the Osage Nation, Osage County, and the community of Fairfax.
