Book Synopsis
The Hustle in Me: God Made Hustle – Love, Hustle, and Faith
By Herbert Addison
I didn’t wake up one day and decide to be a drug dealer.
Life pushed me in that direction.
But God had a plan to pull me out.
The Hustle in Me is more than a memoir — it’s a testimony. It’s the story of a young boy who learned survival before he learned peace, who found false love in the streets before discovering true love in God. It’s the raw, unfiltered truth of what happens when pain meets purpose — and how God can redeem even the hardest hustler’s heart.
I was raised in a home where faith was real but struggle was louder. My mom’s prayers filled the house, but so did pressure — bills, hunger, and the sound of dreams getting drowned out by survival. The streets offered me what I thought was freedom: fast money, false respect, and temporary love. I took it. I ran with it. I mastered it.
But what I didn’t know was that God was running after me the whole time.
This book takes you from the trap to transformation — from a twelve-year-old boy selling crack just to eat, to a man learning that the same hustle that once destroyed him could be used to build something eternal. Each chapter peels back another layer of that journey — the lies, the losses, the lessons, and ultimately, the love of a God who refused to give up on me.
You’ll meet the boy who wanted to be seen.
You’ll walk with the young man who thought money could heal him.
And you’ll witness the moment God flipped my hustle — turning my grind for survival into a mission for souls.
Because here’s the truth:
God never hated my hustle.
He hated what it was attached to.
Now, my mission is simple — to show that the same energy we once used to chase the world can be used to change it. To prove that no matter how deep you’re in, you’re never too far gone for grace. And to remind every hustler, dreamer, and survivor that God made hustle — not for destruction, but for destiny.
So this isn’t a story about drugs.
It’s a story about deliverance.
It’s not about the trap.
It’s about transformation.
It’s not about who I was.
It’s about who He made me to be.
Welcome to The Hustle in Me.
This is my truth.
This is my testimony.
And this is proof that no matter where you start, God can still flip your hustle for His glory

About The Author
Author Bio — Herbert “Pastor Herb” Addison
Herbert Addison — known to many as Pastor Herb — is a native Houstonian and servant-leader whose life is a powerful testimony to redemption, faith, and service. He began his ministry at Covenant Glen United Methodist Church, where he served for nine years, and later served at St. John’s Downtown United Methodist Church under Pastor Rudy Rasmus.
St. John’s Downtown was founded by Pastor Rudy Rasmus and his wife in 1992, starting with just nine members. Under their leadership, the church transformed into a vibrant, diverse community that became a well-known center for outreach, housing support, and social-justice ministry.

Over the years, Pastor Herb also served at other ministries — including Bethlehem UMC, the Wesley Foundation at Texas Southern University, and Mt. Vernon UMC — always focusing on youth, displaced families, and those affected by incarceration. Today, he leads his own nonprofit organization, The Place of Love, continuing his mission of mentoring youth, supporting displaced families, and helping incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals.
Pastor Herb’s own story is a testament to transformation. After serving a seven-year prison sentence for selling drugs, he was released in 2006 and committed himself to reaching out to those who feel rejected, lost, or forgotten. From high-school dropout to educated pastor: he earned a Bachelor’s in Social Services and a Master of Science in Leadership from Belhaven University, and is currently pursuing further studies in education.
Now, as a published author and gospel recording artist — with a #1 placement on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and recognition as an Amazon #1 Bestseller — Pastor Herb embodies the power of God’s grace. He has been happily married for ten years and is a devoted father to two boys. Above all, his guiding conviction remains that “love is the #1 element that will draw the lost closer to God.”
