Book Synopsis
Hustle on the Green: Lessons of Life, Faith, and Freedom
By Herbert Addison
From the streets of Houston to the pulpit and beyond, Herbert Addison—known to many as Pastor Herb—shares a powerful journey of faith, resilience, and redemption in Hustle on the Green: Lessons of Life, Faith, and Freedom. This isn’t just a memoir—it’s a guide for anyone striving to overcome adversity and live with purpose.
The "green" in Pastor Herb’s story is not a golf course but a battleground of life itself: a place where pain, temptation, and struggle are constant, and lessons are learned the hard way. Through vivid storytelling, Herbert takes you from the generator-humming streets of his neighborhood to the inner victories of faith and transformation.
Inside, you’ll discover:
How faith and resilience can turn chaos into opportunity.
Lessons on integrity, responsibility, and survival in the face of life’s toughest trials.
The importance of using your unique tools—wisdom, discipline, and faith—to play the game of life.
Strategies for breaking free from limiting circumstances and embracing your God-given purpose.
Pastor Herb’s life is the ultimate testament to transformation. Once incarcerated for selling drugs, he served a seven-year sentence, then turned his life around to become a graduate of Belhaven University with degrees in Social Services and Leadership. Today, he is a pastor, bestselling author, Billboard-charting gospel recording artist, and a mentor devoted to helping those who feel lost or rejected find hope and direction.
Hustle on the Green is more than a story—it’s a call to action. It will inspire you to rise above your circumstances, walk boldly in faith, and hustle with integrity. Whether you’ve faced setbacks, felt trapped, or simply want to live with more purpose, Pastor Herb’s lessons will guide you from struggle to triumph.
Your green is not your prison—it’s your classroom, your launchpad, and your training ground for life.

About The Author
Author Bio — Herbert “Pastor Herb” Addison
Herbert Addison — known to many as Pastor Herb — is a native Houstonian and servant-leader whose life is a powerful testimony to redemption, faith, and service. He began his ministry at Covenant Glen United Methodist Church, where he served for nine years, and later served at St. John’s Downtown United Methodist Church under Pastor Rudy Rasmus.
St. John’s Downtown was founded by Pastor Rudy Rasmus and his wife in 1992, starting with just nine members. Under their leadership, the church transformed into a vibrant, diverse community that became a well-known center for outreach, housing support, and social-justice ministry.
Over the years, Pastor Herb also served at other ministries — including Bethlehem UMC, the Wesley Foundation at Texas Southern University, and Mt. Vernon UMC — always focusing on youth, displaced families, and those affected by incarceration. Today, he leads his own nonprofit organization, The Place of Love, continuing his mission of mentoring youth, supporting displaced families, and helping incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals.
Pastor Herb’s own story is a testament to transformation. After serving a seven-year prison sentence for selling drugs, he was released in 2006 and committed himself to reaching out to those who feel rejected, lost, or forgotten. From high-school dropout to educated pastor: he earned a Bachelor’s in Social Services and a Master of Science in Leadership from Belhaven University, and is currently pursuing further studies in education.
Now, as a published author and gospel recording artist — with a #1 placement on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and recognition as an Amazon #1 Bestseller — Pastor Herb embodies the power of God’s grace. He has been happily married for ten years and is a devoted father to two boys. Above all, his guiding conviction remains that “love is the #1 element that will draw the lost closer to God.”
