Book Synopsis
In 1895, the Osage National Council reported the claim by Osage full bloods that many persons by false testimony had gained inclusion onto the Osage annuity roll. Measures were taken to vet these claims, and in 1898, the U.S. Attorney General approved the revised roll that served the Osage Nation until 1906 when tribal governments in Oklahoma were disbanded in favor of Oklahoma statehood. The 1906 roll was also vetted to remove additional questional claimants. This final roll completed in 1908 contained the names of 2,230 persons (one was eligible to share in cash annuities only; 2,229 were eligible to share in tribal headrights, which were equal shares in the mineral wealth, land, and cash annuities).
