Book Synopsis
Prayer is one of the greatest privileges ever granted unto fallen man.
Through the blood of Jesus Christ, sinners may come boldly unto
the throne of grace and speak with the living God. What an aston-
ishing mercy this is—that weak, sinful creatures may draw near
unto the Creator of heaven and earth and find grace, mercy,
strength, comfort, wisdom, forgiveness, and fellowship in His pres-
ence. Yet throughout church history, some of the richest treasures
of Christian devotion have been found in the prayers of godly saints
who walked closely with God.
The men and women represented in this volume came from
many different centuries, nations, and circumstances. Some were
pastors, missionaries, theologians, hymn writers, reformers, revival-
ists, suffering saints, and faithful believers whose lives were marked
by deep communion with Christ. Though imperfect like all believ-
ers, they were men and women who understood something of the
holiness of God, the sinfulness of man, the glory of Christ
