“Without a foe a soldier never knows his strength.” Business ownership doesn’t come lightly and there is one thing that you must be clear on as a business owner; You will have to find a way to balance your personal life while simultaneously developing a successful business. Whether the task is easy or hard is not the real question here. The most important question you should ask yourself is “How dedicated am I going to be to my business when things are not going as well as you had hoped?”.
In 2009 when I launched my first business and let me tell you, I had extremely high expectations for the outcome. I was completely sure that within three to five years I would be a millionaire from the opportunities within the business. The complete opposite happened, I was devastated and struggled to find my purpose. Still in those moments I was completely sure that business ownership was for me, however, I felt deflated, and the lack of success became a huge mental drain and a deterrent.
I was under the impression that business ownership wasn’t hard work. I was naïve to think that as long as you provided a good product or service that people would always come to you, and you would essentially make a lot of money in the end. There’s so much more that comes into play. You need a plan for your plan and then you must be flexible in what comes your way.
Let’s fast forward to today. As a successful Business Coach, I realize that a lot of new business owners have that same mindset I did when I entered the business realm. Some simply believe that by starting a business and offering it a good product or service that this will now be some sort of cash cow for them – making them wealthy. The only way to yield result is hard work and dedication.
In my opinion the ideology of becoming successful from simply existing tends to come from seeing the success and rises of other businesses. What isn’t showcases is the sweat, blood, tears, time, AND resources it takes to pour into a business. It’s beyond following a business plan, it’s takes research, it takes networking, it takes long nights, and it certainly takes early mornings. Drive and dedication must be in the forefront at all times.
Out of the five businesses that I’ve been apart of, two completely failed. I have nothing to show for those businesses, but I can say that they were both much-needed learning experiences. I reflect on this often because my entire goal is the be the business coach for many of you that I wish I had.
We all dream of success. If you’re like most people, you’ve spent quite a bit of time thinking about what constitutes success, how you’ll achieve it, and how good you’ll feel when you’ve achieved your goals.

The part that can seem elusive is the middle part – getting from dreaming about what you want, to having it and enjoying it. It probably seems like some people get to the pinnacle of success easily. How can you be one of those people?

Let’s get started!

The best time to start is NOW, not tomorrow, not next week or next year.

Yours in success,
Michael Woods-El
