Book Synopsis
IN OUR STUDY of the Great Siege of Malta, it is important
first to understand why this event was so significant in the
history of Western civilization. The battle between the
invading Ottoman army and approximately 450 Knights of
the Order of St. John, together with a few thousand Maltese
defenders, carries tremendous historical importance. Many
historians have argued that this single battle helped preserve
Europe from being overrun by the expanding Ottoman
Empire.
