I grew up in Mendocino and cooked on a wood burning stove until I was 12 years old. We made bread, pies and all of our meals on that stove.
We also ate what we grew or traded what we grew for what others in the community grew.
It was an idealistic way to grow up because it was always healthy food that tasted better than any store bought foods today.
I continued growing my own vegetables as I always wanted to be able to walk out into my garden and choose what I wanted to have for dinner.
