Book Synopsis
What does it mean to walk on land layered with prayers, bones, ruins, and roadside altars?

In this illustrated devotional and folk history, Millicent Andrews invites you on a journey through Southern California’s tangled spiritual past and present—from ancient Indigenous ceremonies and Spanish missions to curanderas, snake oil peddlers, and syncretic saints.

Blending history, reflection, and ritual, this book explores how to live in right relationship with the land we've arrived on—and how to honor the stories it still carries.

Saints, Spirits, and Snake Oil is for the spiritual misfits, witches of the west, and seekers of something sacred in the dust. Whether you light candles on dashboards or whisper prayers in desert wind, this book is your invitation to listen, remember, and belong.

About The Author
Millicent Andrews is a writer, educator, and spiritual folklorist living on unceded Kumeyaay land in Escondido, California. She is the founder of Weird Sisters Wellness, where she helps devotional misfits and sacred seekers reconnect with ancestral magic, local ritual, and land-based reverence—without the appropriation.

She writes with the ghosts at her heels, a candle always lit, and the occasional guidance of her beloved husband, Erik, who serves as her long-suffering editor, emotional support human, and unofficial chief of snacks. Without his steady love (and willingness to read every draft), none of this would’ve made it to print.

Millicent believes in the power of stories to heal, unsettle, and stitch us back together—and she always packs extra water, just in case the desert starts whispering again.
