Book Synopsis
In 1888, when she is two, Norah Bowen's life changes abruptly. A fire destroys her parents' store and seriously injures her mother, Ahoti. Unable to raise Norah alone, her father, Jesse, sends his daughter to live with a local family. Jesse moves his wife to New Orleans for medical care, telling Norah he will see her soon.
Years pass with only brief messages from her father, setting Norah on a path to find her parents. At 16, she decides to visit New Orleans with the hope of a reunion. But when she arrives unannounced, Norah must untangle the shocking lies and secrets that have endangered her mother and left her family broken.
