The book describes the encounters of the author, Benny G., from his personal experiences with International dating sites. He writes in a straight up New Yorker way, factual but also entertaining. For myself, after reading what this man went through, I have a whole new perspective on exposing my personal life to what really are strangers on line. Anyway, I highly recommend the book. Even if you are not into the on line dating scene its a good read, glad I bought it.

I have to admit, I was skeptical of Benny G's book I  Was Scammed, The Dangers of Online Dating.  After all, what business does a 60 year old man have trying to date beautiful 20 year old women, unless he is seeking something only physical and temporary? 

However, I kept an open mind about the book, and was glad I did.   I realized as I virtually travelled with Benny G on his pursuit of love,  I began to sympathize with him.  Benny makes it clear he is a New Yorker, but underneath his big, loud personality is a decent and generous guy just seeking companionship.

If you happen to be an older man about to jump into the chaotic arena of international online dating I Was Scammed is the essential field manual to keep at your side.  However, Benny's recounting of his experiences overseas will keep you entertained no matter who you are.  My favorite story happened in the Philippines, where Benny's date asks to bring her family along to dinner.  Much to Benny's surprise, 15 family members show up at the restaurant all with a good appetite!

Even if you have no interest in online dating, the practical tips provided for travelling internationally regarding protecting your valuables and dealing with foreign police officers and the U.S. embassy are something everyone should know.
