Book Synopsis
Visitors to an Isshin-ryu Karate school are often impressed as much by what is taught as by what is not. In creating Isshin-ryu Master Shimabuku omitted as inessential and wasteful what he called 'fancy techniques', much of which are required learning in other styles of Karate. By it's very nature, then, Isshin-ryu is Hanshin-te - Lazy Man's Boxing. I believe this is a good thing. I also believe the reader will come to think so as well.

Contained herein is my personal understanding, after nearly 40 years of study, of what the martial arts in general and Isshin-ryu in particular are really all about: their Mystique, their Mastery, and their Mystery. This is not a text book. It is a reference point for what could be, if lucky, a life-long journey. Enjoy.
