Gunbluff Plantation has played a significant role in the history of Edisto Island, South Carolina. Gunbluff was a Seabrook property during the revolutionary period and forward through the Confederate War. Former 1850s South Carolina Governor Whitmarsh Seabrook is buried with his family on Gunbluff. Ownership of Gunbluff has never been out of South Carolina families. At the time of this publication, the Thomas Mikell Leland, MD, PhD family has been steward of the land and heritage for nearly four decades. This volume is a-compilation of journal entries, written primarily by Thomas M. Leland between 1985 and 2019. A large photograph gallery of family events preserves many vignettes of the family's decades of enjoyment of Gunbluff.

Thomas Mikell Leland is the son of James Mikell Leland, (a lineal descendent from the 1650s Massachusetts Pilgrim settler Henry Leyland and of several of the “Dorchester Adventures “ settlers, including John Hill, who came to New England before the Winthrop Fleet and whose descendants removed to South Carolina, establishing the community of Dorchester on the Ashley River.) and Mary Ellen Edmunds Leland, of McCormick County, SC, through which he shares 12 French Huguenot linages.
His wife is Gwendolyn Brown Leland, a native of Hampton (Tidewater) Virginia.
His children are:
