Book Synopsis
Marvis Elliott was a southern girl, and the third of eleven children.
She was raised in Cheneyville, Louisiana.
As a child, Marvis was often found in the kitchen with her mother, Deolia Brown Thomas.
She often watched her mother and learned most of her recipes. Marvis loved baking cakes.
Marvis moved to Dallas, Texas in 1967.
In 1981, Marvis decided she wanted to own a business and started "Cakes By Marvis".
She initially started by baking and decorating
birthday cakes for many of her family and friends, but her business quickly grew.
She eventually became a Full-Scale Wedding Consultant and Coordinator.
For over 25 years, Marvis baked cakes and decorated churches and venues for hundreds of brides.
Her clients loved the taste of her cakes, and she became affectionately known to many as
“The Cake Lady”.
Although she is no longer with us,
the taste of her cakes will never be forgotten.
