Book Synopsis
James, the half brother of Jesus, is believed to have been the writerof this New Testament letter. He was not a follower of Jesus during his earthly ministry (He thought Jesus was crazy!). But after the resurrection of Jesus, James came to believe that Jesus was what He said He was. He became a very influential leader in the church of Jerusalem. Scripture believes James died in AD 62 or 66, so he wrote this letter prior to these dates. James was a lot like Paul in that he was intense, passionate, and somewhat in-your-face about following his half-brother and his Lord, Jesus. Hegesippus, an early church historian, writes this about James: “His knees were callous like a camel’s as a result of his continued kneeling in prayer to God.” As I read and study this letter that James wrote to the Jewish believers that were “dispensed abroad”, I am convinced he was desperately trying to encourage these believers to be a REAL ONE.
