Book Synopsis
The first half of the book contains a history of my Lennard and Barrett ancestors in England from the 16th century to the 18th century. They lived through the Tudor Renaissance, the Jacobean period, the English Civil Wars, the Restoration, and the Glorious Revolution and held estates in Kent, Sussex, and Essex: Chevening, Knole, Herstmonceux, and Belhus among them. In the early 18th century, the Lennard and Barrett families were joined through marriage, and Thomas Barrett Lennard (no hyphen yet) became the first and only Barrett Lennard Baron Dacre. The second half of the book traces the history of my branch of the Barrett-Lennard family, descended from one of Lord Dacre's grandsons, Walter James Barrett-Lennard. His oldest son, William, immigrated to Canada in the 19th century and settled in Russell, Manitoba. From there, the family moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, my birthplace.
