Book Synopsis
This account was actually written by Lyman O. Littlefield, based on accounts given him by William M. Daniels. According to Crawley, Daniels was with the anti-Mormons 10 days before the assassination of Joseph and Hyrum Smith, and remained with them for reasons not satisfactorily explained by him. Seven days later he swore out of affidavit outlining the things that he had seen. The pamphlet includes two woodcut illustrations of the interior and exterior of the Carthage Jail. Daniels' pamphlet includes a reference to a flash of light dispersing the mob after the murders, but this was most likely an embellishment by Littlefield.
