Book Synopsis
Pete Gaines leaves the Carolina mountains and heads west to Colorado in hopes of mining enough gold to buy a ranch in Texas. Unexpected events, beginning with a cave-in that kills his partner, put his plans on hold. Following the cave-in Indians attack and wound Pete. A mysterious mountain man nurses him back to health and tells him that it probably wasn’t rogue Indians who attacked him. It seems that there are more troublesome characters afoot. Chief among the culprits is Brad Wooten, a ruthless rancher who will stop at nothing, including murder, to get what he wants. And then there’s a corrupt sheriff who does Wooten’s bidding.

Pete finds himself among decent, God-fearing people who are at loose ends to fight back against Wooten’s small army of murderous villains. And so he postpones his plans for Texas and becomes their leader. Shrewd planning, clever deception and family solidarity are only a few of the weapons he and his “troops” employee in their fight against Wooten.
