"But Some of Them Git Shot" is a brief history of the Paul and Mildred (Cornell) Buchanan family. Intended to introduce the descendants of Paul and Mildred to four generations of their direct ancestors, this work offers biographical sketches, newspaper articles, family photographs, and a variety of historical documents.

This book is about the author’s visit to the Jennett Cemetery in Simpson County, Kentucky in July, 2022 to assess the condition of the cemetery and photograph the graves of William M. Neely (1800-1845) and his wife, Eliza Neely. William M. Neely was the oldest of three sons of Edward Neely (born ~1770, died late 1828 or early 1829) from New York, who served as the first sheriff of Simpson County from 1819 to 1821.

PFC Ottis Earl Sudduth WWII Replacement Soldier In the spring of 2022, Ottis Earl Sudduth’s niece, Penny, contacted the author concerning information posted to a genealogy website that he managed. In one of the several emails they exchanged, an apparent discrepancy was noted in the number of months that her uncle PFC Ottis Earl Sudduth spent as a POW during WWII. In the process of resolving the discrepancy (5-months vs. 9-months) they discovered more detail about her Uncle Earl than either anticipated possible so long after his death in 1984. Sam Gay defied the challenges of the mid-1900s—the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl and two World Wars— to provide for his family. He and his wife and four children followed destitute Oklahoma farmers, and was one of 60 lucky enough to secure membership at Casa Grande Valley Farms, a farming cooperative part of Roosevelt’s New Deal, in Coolidge, Arizona.
