A Life: An Autobiography in Shaped Verse Ron Cook

I dabbled with writing poetry in various forms for many years. I was not at first drawn to any particular poetic form, but I most typically wrote free verse. In about 1991, I began to experiment with writing shaped verse utilizing the lozenge form. I quickly developed a self-imposed set of rules that required, among other things, that each poem have forty-nine words arranged in a diamond shape. In each lozenge, I was equally concerned with the sound of the verse when read aloud, the creation of a vivid mental image through the words used, and the actual appearance of the lozenge on the printed page. Several of my early lozenges concerned my childhood days, and my goal then became to wri ...
Aish Tamid M. Leavitt

$22.23
Size: 6" x 9"
Binding: Perfect Bound
Aish Tamid is a story of recovery told as a collection of poetry. It follows a bizarre rhythm of loss and redemption that explores the world of the insane and the abandoned. Layered and cyclical, the poems recall one another, echoing back on a frequency that allows them to take on multiple meanings at once, much like the Zoharic stories they mirror. A place where the pages of Torah come crawling back into a new, screaming body. A tribute and a confession, sometimes begging questions and at other times pointing to the answer, unable to speak it aloud. Nursery rhymes become funeral hymns, confessions become psalms. I am alive today because this thing has finally come forth. I was asked ...

This book is dedicated to the brilliance and insights of James Baldwin. The simplicity of his words weaved such a complex and complete analysis of America and being black in it. The most amazing part of his legacy is his ability to be honest and critical while speaking in love, hope, and pride in who he was and what he stood for.

The Devil whispered, "I have some gifts for you, Dear." Her lower lip trembled and twitched, stained with blood and wine. The Devil whispered, "Do not fear, My Dear, you will be fine." She sighed, relented, unwrapping the gifts presented. There in the box, withered and black, was The Devil's Heart. The Devil whispered, "Please, My Dear, do not give it back or rip it apart." She laughed and smiled, just a bit hesitant. "Never, Never! Will I ever return such a beautiful present!"

Drumbeat Hear My Cry is a poetic journey through Black America though not to be confined to Black America. Much of what this nation is going through has distinct parallels to the Black experience. I took the hardships of my life on South Side Chicago to exhibit the frailty of this nation. The human experience is without prejudice to the maladies of regression, victimization and hopelessness. Unapologetically Christian based the fundamental of secure truth.
