It was my second year of teaching in Sierra Leone, this was 2012, back when the country wasn't famous for Ebola yet, just for a civil war and conflict diamonds. I wanted to leave the village where I was teaching, Waridala, and see some new places. I wanted to do it by bicycle. I decided to travel with some friends to Tiwai Island in the southern part of the country, an inland island located on the Moa River. “Big Island” the name means in Mende.
