Bridges of Europe is fully illustrated with 265 full-color photographs of 70 bridges taken by the author. The bridges chosen for this book are landmark and or significant bridges because of their design, age, height, or length. Bridges are from the Rhine region of Germany Switzerland, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The book contains a description and history of each bridge and a section on bridge basics for easy reference so the reader understands the different bridges, designs, and their uses. In the year 1862, at age 17, John Hildesheim completed his apprenticeship as a clerk with N.H. Bernhard & Co., a textile manufacturer in Hamburg, Germany. That year, he began a diary (titled Notizen, or “Notes”) and kept it until July, 1927, less than a year before his death at 83. The 65-year journal includes his first employment in Germany and France; his travels in Cuba, Mexico, Haiti, South America, Central America, and California; his marriage to Pauline Meyer in 1869; his career as a merchant in Glasgow and Hamburg; travel through Scotland and Europe; and dramatic technological change.

On August 31, 1939, Raymond Fishler went to sleep at about midnight dreaming of the wonderful future he envisioned for himself. Less than five hours later he was awakened from his peaceful slumber by the start of World War II. After living through a brutal German occupation, his family made a futile attempt to go into hiding to avoid mass liquidation or being transported to the living hell of a concentration camp. Raymond’s mother made him promise to go to America and tell the world what was done to them. This Coffee Table Edition (World Countries) comprises of rare Vintage Postcards that are mostly in the range of 50-109+ years old. Some of the postcards are displaying photos, while others are from sketches or paintings during their era. Most of the postcards are still in excellent shape while some show aging and fraying over time. In addition, most of the postcards have text comments explaining some detail of the postcard’s historical showing.
