This book is on John "Hunter" McHenry born 1785 son of Daniel & Mary (Stevens) McHenry. He was the original proprietor of the McHenry Distillery born 1812 which his son ROHR continued with the business and it was passed down to John G. McHenry and the fire destroyed the business. McHenry Distillery was located in Benton, Columbia County, PA. He was the first born child on the north side of Knob Mountain and the McHenry's were early settlers in the area. The family came from Goshen, NY to Pottsgrove, Northumberland County, PA. and on to Benton.

John McHenry son of Daniel and Mary (Stevens) McHenry was baptized in Goshen, New York and died at age 5 of BURNS after they moved to Northumberland County, PA and MAYBE buried with his grandfather at the Chillisquaque Cemetery. There were 3 Chillisquaque cemeteries in that area, the records of the third one St. Vincent's just came to light recently when they started working on the bypass 2 miles outside of Milton. Benjamin McHenry was the second son of Daniel and was baptized at Goshen, New York and married Betsy Rhone and they had five children. Past History said the Butterfield middle name came as when the McHenry family escaped from the West Branch to Fort Augusta for safety from the Indian raids a family by the name of Butterfield gave the family shelter. He was the fourth son of Daniel & Mary (Stevens) McHenry. He was raised in Stillwater, now Columbia County, PA. Upon attaining his majority he was given part of his father's land holdings between Raven Creek and Fishingcreek, where he lived all his days and where his son Joseph F. lived and his granddaughter Ella McHenry Hagenbuch made their home. Uriah McHenry a son was a shoemaker and his cobbler shop stood on the banks of Fishingcreek, Northumberland, now Columbia Co., PA. he was a philosopher and orator and was well read for the times. He married Patsy "Charlotte" Rhone. Daughter Jane married Silas Jackson. Daughter Martha married John Stiles.

Some listings also note the mate's name and occupation of the primary resident. Along with the directory information are lists of local officials and numerous ads for local businesses.

Edward & Matthew are sons of John & Susannah (McNeil) McHenry. Several of John 's children left Columbia County, PA and went to New York. Edward moved to western NY and drown in Lake Erie leaving a wife and children. Matthew remain in Allegany Co., NY and also died at a young age leaving a wife and children. In 2018 one descendant remained in the area. This line also were the owners of a jewelry store in Hornell, NY.
