The coin book is the first because, in my opinion this is the foundation of any discussion of currency. We present each coin alone then show the coins that can equal the featured coin if it can be reduced or broken down. When young children have a good knowledge of coins, the rest of the money will become easy to decipher. I have also incorporated simple math equations. Through personal experience I know first and second graders can grasp these mathematical ideas, especially when presented with money. My own grandchildren have critiqued this book.
