Book Synopsis
A book about the origin of Maslow's self-actualization theory and the benefits of this worldview to heal the Native soul wound. "Dr. Brown’s volume carefully describes the source of Abraham Maslow’s theory of self-actualization, which was based on observations of the Siksika (Blackfoot) tribe of northern Alberta. She elucidates the potential benefits of re-capturing and using the material Maslow interpreted worldview in a manner more congruent with the original Siksika world view, belief system, values, and practices. I am pleased that my people’s ancient truths have been captured and shared accurately." ~ Joseph Stone, psychologist

This book will help heal the soul wound of Native families and individuals across First Nations of Canada and 566 Tribes of the United States. A-32-year-veteran facilitator of healing historical trauma. She speaks the truth. We applaud Dr. Sidney Stone Brown for capturing that sacred process of self-actualization. ~ Theda NewBreast, Native Wellness

I look forward to reading this book. I was a colleague of his at Brandeis and have done extensive research on his work with the Blackfoot. I assume that the author is aware of the claims of Narcisse Blood and Heavy Head that he "stole" the "hierarchy of needs" and the related concepts from the Blackfoot Tribe.
Once I read the book I should have more to say.Yes, I tend to be impatient.!

This book has been ordered by Harvard, Stanford, University of California, most recently I have received requests for the book in the UK and Denmark, Psychologists and Psychotherapist have heard of our work to bring forth Indigenous knowledge. We all came from villages, tribes, had relationship with the land and knew indigenous knowledge. People want to decolonize, to see the world before and beyond Romans and Greek HIStory. I have a request from a Psychologist to translate the book to the Danish language. The second version is in color, has enlarged graphics and soon will have legible (retyped) copies of Dr. Maslow's papers. The book is now with faculty in Australia, New Zealand, Guam and Hawaii. Indigenous doctorial students are using it as a reference for their dissertations. It has surpassed my expectations. And yes the elders wanted to be acknowledged as an important source not just for Maslow but for the world. The world apparently is ready to listen.
