Book Synopsis
Ja-el tells us the story of his life as a scribe in the palace of Solomon. Sold as a boy into slavery by bandits to Esshel, Solomon's most favored concubine, Ja-el eventually becomes a trusted personal scribe to the king, devoted to helping Solomon collect and record the Wisdom Scrolls. He is also sent forth by Solomon to explore the nature of the various gods worshipped in ancient Canaan and Israel. Ja-el bears witness to the reign of Solomon from its early years until its end, as well as to the ambitions of those around him. In his idealistic pursuit of wisdom for himself, he battles the common human frailties and betrayals that lead him to seek fulfillment in the archetypal forces represented by the ancient gods.
