Book Synopsis
Bruce Burris Bradley was the youngest of three Bradley brothers born in upper Michigan who served in World War II. He enlisted after college and was a Sergeant in the 118th Evacuation Hospital Unit. First based in Texas, the 118th was sent to Europe in late 1944. Bruce kept a Journal of his experiences in England, France and Germany. Shortly after returning home he typed up his war memoirs and put a scrapbook together of many of the photographs, postcards, and objects he saved from that time. When he “liberated” a German camera and found film inside, he had that developed and added those prints of an anonymous German family to his scrapbook.

He visited Buchenwald Concentration Camp two weeks after it was liberated and took photos and wrote about the experience. He collected German badges, propaganda, paper money, stamps, a map of Paris in German, and even his “Welcome To The States” brochure from Camp Myles Standish near Boston.

His memoir has been edited by Nancy Brooks and is published here for the first time.
