Book Synopsis
The events that are covered in 2 Kings span a period of almost three hundred years. Beginning from the reign of Ahaziah (the ninth king in the northern kingdom of Israel) to the fall of Israel to Assyria; this being a difficult period in history, a time of great change, struggles from within and pressure from without with the result being a collapse of both kingdoms and captivity of both nations.
The theme of this book is history of the kings of Israel and Judah from the time of Solomon to the captivity to Babylon. The purpose is to show the Davidic kingdom not being perpetually continued and to reveal why God sent Israel into captivity. This message is for us today and it describes that those who refuse to respond or obey the Lord they will experience God’s discipline.
