Book Synopsis
The Author writes, "Inspiring Kate’s final speech is the understanding that she is in a partnership and that by increasing the power of her husband she increases her own power. In addition, she is clearly aware of the differences between public and private behavior, and there is no indication that her accepting this transitory and very public role of supplicant means she will always be that way – particularly in private life. It shows, also, that Kate has come to an upper level of maturity, able to manage things in an adult manner (in which there is both give and take). Kate's speech does not display a tamed shrew, but rather a richer, more established woman than the one seen at the story's beginning."
