Book Synopsis
John Krensley, Baron of Lysenwyk, self-exiled confidant of his prince and ardent alchemist, has an all-consuming passion for the pursuit and the discovery of knowledge and science and this has earned him the title, “The Mad Baron.” He sees science, "true knowledge", as the antithesis of the seductive influences of magic. This passion catapults him (and his faithful soldier-of-fortune turned steward, Adam Dirk) into a series of adventures culminating in a flight over the Edge of the World in search of the fabled counter-magical jewels, Hyacinth. He will encounter strange creatures, befriend even more fantastic ones, rescue ladies in distress, cross magically wastelands, and accomplish an aerial jail break. Time and again, he must match wits with the sorcerer, Orlando, as they run at cross purposes. His wits and knowledge, as well as his sword, and his new friends will be put to test.
