Entry ½ Dear Journal,
I’ve come to realize that no one wants to know your back story. People don’t care why you do what you do, why you scream and yell non-stop, tense up when people touch you, say mean and nasty things because someone is looking. They just want you to stop. They just want you to behave, get good grades, and look happy while doing it. And I was doing that. As a matter of fact, I was doing it fashionable well. But, when things went from bad, which seemed normal, to worse, I began to questions the fictional part of MY story, the fake part of OUR lives, the fronts WE were keeping up. And what I found changed my life forever. MIRRORS.

Covered Mirrors is an excellent novelette that any parent of a teenager should read, and this book should be read at the college level by any teacher(s) in training. Chances are they won't be selling this book back when they return their college books! This will be one they pass on to other teachers/students and or parents.

The book goes beyond what you need to know as a teacher with regards to curriculum & shows teachers what they may encounter on a daily basis. The book provides the reader with a first-hand account of what students must face or encounter. As a teacher, this book helped me better understand my students & what they go through. It isn't enough to just teach our students, we must build connections with our students as this book discusses, and show them how much we care. In the book the main character Lincoln says "Most students deal in relationships, if they're not feeling you or think you're fake & really don't care about their well-being, they're just not going to deal with you." Regardless of what kind of district you are going to teach in or currently teach in, this book will open your eyes, and help pick up the pieces of some of your students' mirrors that have been shattered. I have read this book with 7th & 8th Graders, and the response was overwhelming. Students could not put it down, they are awaiting a sequel! I often find myself reflecting back on different pages.

Mr. Paonessa let me read the book, and it was amazing! I like that I could I could imagine what's happening in the book and I like the end how the plot twisted. If there was sequel to the book, that'll be great. I'd recommend it to teachers so they could learn about their students and so they can help them at difficult times.
