Book Synopsis
The book of Judges is the second of the Historical books in the Old Testament. It picks up where Joshua leaves off and continues the narrative. The time period covered in the book is approximately three hundred years.
The author of the book is not given in the text, but it is believed by some Bible students that Samuel may have been the author. Yet others surmise that King Hezekiah or possibly Ezra could have written the manuscript.
In the book of Judges we see a vicious cycle repeated over and over again. First the children of Israel rebel against the LORD through idolatry, then comes judgement for their sin, later they repent and turn back to the LORD, then finally God sends a Judge/deliverer and restores them.
Here is the key to understanding Israel’s spiritual apostasy "In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes".
