Book Synopsis
From the mountains of Wyoming, a river flows across Montana, scattering seeds along the way. Somewhere on the eastern plateau of the Great Northern Plains, the last of the seeds wash up onto the river bank. There, in a foreign habitat, they take root and grow into tall, white-barked trees crowned by yellow leaves. Indian legend calls it the Spirit Grove. In 1879, homesteader Silas Rye, discovers the unlikely grove and claims the land on which they stand. Weathering years of drought and hardship, he creates Aspen Grove Ranch. His granddaughter, Fanny, struggles to hold onto the ranch through two World Wars, the Vietnam conflict, and the attack on 9/11. Drawing her strength from the mystical grove, she fights a town's racial prejudice, grieves the loss of loved ones, and worries who will take over the ranch when she dies. Then, one day, an unknown heir appears. This book tells the sweeping saga of six generations bound together by the unexplained presence of the aspen grove.

An excellent read! Could not put it down until I knew the final outcome of this epic saga. Would make a great mini series.

I love family saga stories. Peggy McCaulley weaves a tale that takes us through generations of the Rye family, demonstrating that bloodlines are more complicated and intriguing than we suspect. Congratulations to the author for giving us such a compelling first novel.

I enjoyed your book so much, your construction and order of the story, the short chapters, making it difficult to put down, the varied characters... all of it was so excellent! It’s such an American epic, and the contrast/distance between “the world” with all its activity and events, and Aspen Grove” with its human history, spirituality, family devotion, leaves one with a sense of hope.. that the truly important things will outlast the chaos.
