Book Synopsis
Hans, a chemist at DuPont, discovered the first commercial use for rare earth chemicals, a business opportunity bungled by this great company. The story starts by telling about this event for the first time, then reverts to events leading thereto beginning with an early upbringing in Germany damaged by Nazism, of being raised on the streets of 1940's New York in a "West Side Story" environment, of contributing to the raising of five beautiful and capable daughters and of creative careers in science, business and teaching --- including the development of an analytical method that bears his name, the "Borchardt-Daniels Method", and producing the first ferroelectric laser ---in building the largest fishing supply store in Delaware from the ground up, and in producing instructional material in computer technology for seniors that presents the material in one-week instead of one-semester parcels.
His life was blessed by a May-December romance between two people, damaged by life, who found fulfillment in one another resulting in a marriage now in it's 31st year. A rich and full life was made possible, in part, by the bounty of this great nation.
