This work evaluates quantitatively the aspects of interstellar propulsion mechanisms (1st, 2nd laws of thermodynamics) of both reaction engines and an alternate proposed reactionless "impulse" engine. It is proven mathematically impossible to travel to the near stars with any type of Newtonian reaction engine in normal human lifetimes regardless of design and fuel type (fission, fusion, anti-matter). The fundamental reason not considered by engineers or rocket scientists is the unsustainable operating temperature of the engine over long time spans. It also deals with the colonization of the galaxy and possible alien intervention in early human history. 136 pages, many calculations
