Curtis Abbott, an educated young man from East Bethel, Vermont signed up early in the Civil War to be a sharpshooter. He witnessed and lived through some of the most important battles of the Civil War. In hundreds of letters sent home to Vermont from 1861 to 1865, Abbott details camp life, battles, and marches through the Mid- Atlantic towns where he was stationed. This cache of letters is made even more powerful through Curtis Abbott's additional writings. Later in life, he documented the history of his company (Company H).
