Book Synopsis

Contents: 1. 'Personal Journal From Standing Rock' is an account of five days spent in the Lakota Nation with water protectors opposing the Dakota Access Pipeline.
2. 'The Pope of Buenos Aires' tells of two weeks in Argentina exploring Pope Francis' spiritual and political roots.
3. 'A Rural Connecticut Election' recounts the author's experience running for State Representative in Connecticut in the 2022 midterms.
The title harkens to Paul Revere’s famous pair of Revolutionary numbers, “one if by land, two if by sea.” Born on the 18th of April, the day of the “midnight ride,” I feel kinship enough with the revered epigram to give it personal meaning: one by land, two by sea, three by Olin—the Great Plains, Argentina, the three towns of Connecticut’s 34th Assembly District. If three lanterns placed on the steeple of Old North Church could send a clear signal, I’d do so gladly. But my three beacons will have to stand as warnings enough.

About The Author
Setting out at 20 to be a writer, I accumulated the sediments of forty years, then began a young adult trilogy set around the world. The stratum of my life in Pennsylvania became Susquehanna Essays, and that of my political nature, the book in your hands. Young writers: look before you leap.
