Book Synopsis
For the first time in years, Zhas feels confident in his position as zhalja to Bazha Jabari, a man who is both his sponsor and his secret lover. With Jabari’s assistance, Zhas is able to achieve his dream of opening a shelter for retired zhaljas. During the process, Zhas comes across a desperate plea for help from a young zhalja suffering under the tyranny of a cruel sponsor. Just when Zhas thinks he’s in control of his life, everything he’s worked for quickly crumbles away, revealing the truth of Zhas’s helplessness in a world of rich men who see him as little more than a pretty face. Zhas isn’t sure how much longer he can stay silent in the face of so much injustice, and to become the man he wants to be, he may have to make sacrifices— and face a deadly enemy along the way.
