Book Synopsis
The Power is in the Pew is a case study of a congregation that surrendered to an abusive style of pastoral leadership. It traces actual events, and analyzes the actions of individuals, and core groups, throughout the drama.
The case highlights several characters who appeared to have failed to honor the trust that God placed in their hands: the first was the pastor who, instead of lovingly ministering to his congregation, took advantage of their ignorance; another was one who appeared to lack knowledge of the authority possessed, and how to exercise it; a third stood out as one who had no courage to say ‘no’ to illegal activity, but who chose instead, to become an accomplice to the crime of election tampering; finally, committees that permitted themselves to be outwitted, and out maneuvered by the pastor, as time and time again they stopped short of carrying out the mandate that God gave to them.
