Book Synopsis
The history of the Carthage Police Department is not unlike that of agencies in many towns. Early Carthage policemen were not well paid, worked seven days a week and were subject to local political whims. There was no academy training - they depended on their wits and their brawn. But these brave lawmen dedicated themselves to maintaining the peace and security of their community, often at the risk of their own lives. Over time, conditions improved, with better pay and training, less political interference, improvements in equipment and technology, and a higher level of professionalism. The sense of dedication felt by our early policemen is still prevalent in our officers today. This book, complete with photos spanning many years, shares the story of our growth as well as accounts of crime, investigations, and police activity in Carthage through the years.
