Most married couples do not have need for very many letters during their marital years because they are almost always together or only apart for a day or two. Little notes to each other left in lunch boxes or on a pillow comprise much of the efforts to communicate via writing for many couples.
The exception to this limited writing comes when a man is more nomadic either because of his job that requires travel or he is on non-job related projects that involve traveling. I was one of those types of people for over 30 years.
