LAFF TIME by Ken Clanton is a lifetime collection of light-hearted jokes transcribed into poetic language. To read a Clanton poem is to be immersed in a folksy narrative, polished with rhythm and rhyme. The plot and characters bounce along in playful cadence as the story builds to its inevitable punchline. Some of the poems are drawn from actual humorous events in his life. And most of the poems will produce a belly laugh, but all will, at least, give the reader the punch of cleverness, a good feeling, a grin or a chuckle. None of the stories are “dirty jokes.” If compared to a Movie rating they would closely fit PG 13. While some may be a little risqué or contain innuendo, none of the “Seven Deadly Words” are used. LAFF TIME represents a serious labor of love: Ken’s love of the human condition with its foibles, his love of a good joke….and his love of the craft of poetry. This is a collection to savor.
