Book Synopsis
The book of Colossians is one of four epistles written by the Apostle Paul during his Roman imprisonment, the other three books are: Ephesians, Philippians, and Philemon.

Colosse was a city in Asia Minor located in the Lycus River Valley which is now western Turkey. It was about 100 miles east of Ephesus. Colosse formed a triangle with its two sister cities, Hierapolis and Laodicea (See Col.4:13-16). They both were located within a day's journey of Colosse.

This was not a church that Paul had started during any of his missionary trips, but apparently it was founded through the preaching and teaching of Epaphras (Col.1:7).

Some of the church's memebership consisted of masters and slaves (Col.3:22; 4:1) such as: Philemon and Onesimus.

This church was dealing with some dangerous hereies that were being spread by false teachers such as: Gnotics and Judaizers. Paul's defense against these false teachers was to show the supremacy of Christ.
