Book Synopsis
A book filled with poetry and short stories, crafted to make you long for the night, deserted streets, neon lights, unknown shadows, and the night air with less concentration of volatile compounds. Chocolate Mint Nite Drives offers obscure sorrows that wander in the abyss of negative reflection. Ruminate through kenopsia as a man and woman sit on bench and look around their empty city. Explore the apartments of sonder, ellipsism, lachesism, adronitis, and occhiolism. Victoria invites you on a night drive where she unveils the despondency wrapped in her heart. You both head where the other nightly people go. Perhaps an ice cream cone is purchased. Perhaps it is mint chocolate chip. You'll head to the old playground where the homeless sometimes go for a deep slumber. Here is where palpable colloquy commences. The true contents of your heart takes a breath of fresh night air. Suddenly, you become okay with the things you weren't okay with. You just let it happen. Like this book.

Disclosure: I had both the honor and pleasure of meeting Victoria at a local open mic recently. That is all.

So, I read this book in a single sitting as on prone to do when I think something will be interesting. And I’m glad I did it that way, because broken into pieces, a book that contains the fragments of a life being actively lived would not nearly have as much impact as it would if taken in as fast as humanly possible and put together as a colorful mosaic, broken but beautiful. There were moments in this book where I felt a kind of thread being tied together between my own mind, and the world’s, thoughts, and feelings portrayed as I read through each piece. Created no doubt from both the phantasmagoric and the concrete realities of life. And then there were times when I felt like I was purposely being disconnected and then quickly reconnected to a network of dreams and a whole lot of randomness. This is pretty much what happens every time you spend any time on the road with anyone. It took me back to my own days of random late night conversations riding on the way to nowhere. Because you know what? At the end of that, everyone always ends up somewhere. And that was probably the best thing about this book, and why found it so highly enjoyable. I felt like I was having a conversation in part, being forced to relive both some very painful and very beautiful memories. And I couldn’t stop myself from wondering about all the things left unwritten, the words that would occupy the space between the words that were set down in black ink, and the lines that belonged between the lines… The things which would occupy the negative space. And then, like most people often do I begin to wonder about the person who wrote this… Perhaps that remains forever mystery, but who knows? Maybe one day, figurative or literal drives in order. So why did I give the book 4 stars if I liked it so much? Not because it isn’t good, but just because I wanted to give a clearly talented writer something to strive for. Because I know I always need something to strive for. I hope you keep writing, Victoria. Until next time! –CG (Captain Gimpy)

PS. Sorry for waxing poetic in a review. It was the only way to capture what I actually felt when reading the book. And if people don’t like it, they can definitely go somewhere. Besides, most literary reviews kind of suck anyway.
