Book Synopsis
With millions of American servicemen stationed in Europe during World War 2, there was a need to keep morale high. Army Special Services met that need by creating Soldier Shows, where soldiers acted in skits, plays and comedy routines. When the war in Europe ended in May of 1945, and with over 3 million men still stationed in Europe, the need to supplement Soldier Shows with professional talent became apparent. To fulfill this need, the US Army hired Civilian Actress Technicians to provide this much-needed expertise. This is the story of one such actress, Sidney Laune, who, at the age of 22, went to Europe in 1945 to act in support of Soldier Shows. Set in war-torn Europe only months after the war ended there, her exciting story gives an inside account of what it was like to create, act and travel with one such show, "Brother Rat."
