Book Synopsis
The 319th Bomb Squadron of the 90th Bombardment Group known as The Jolly Rogers was a member of the 5th Army Air Force in WWII.They fought the Imperial Japanese military throughout the South West Pacific. The 90th Bombardment Group Heavy, was commanded by Lt. General George C. Kenney. The 319th Bombardment Squadron, nicknamed; Asterperious, is one of four bomb squadrons of the 90th Bombardment Group. This squadron made history in New Guinea from 1943 Through 1944 in many critical battle campaigns including Wewak, Biak Island, Rabaul and many more. This picture book originally published in 1944 provides readers with a snap shot of life on the front lines during those dangerous times in 1943. This reprint has been copied from an original owned by one of the warriors of the 319th and he made notes to many of the pictures. These inscriptions allow a reader to begin to grasp the magnitude of the sacrifices made by these heroes.

The 90th Bomb Group was very proud group of soldiers. Of the four squadrons (319, 320, 321 and 400) the 319th may have been the proudest.

These books; the photos and information they contain becomes harder and harder to come by, even in this internet age.

Well done Jim on this and your other 90th book projects. Thanks for keeping their memory alive.

Could you please tell me if this book list anything from the 321st squadron? My father was in that Squadron and would love to find a book and some information on it.

Laura, to my knowledge the 321st did not publish a picture book. the 319th, the 320th and the 400th Bomb Squadrons did. They were all members of the 90th Bomb Group. You should email Robert Tupa at If anyone would have info on the 321st or possibly your dad it would be him.

Thank you for keeping these rare memories alive. My father George H. Fields was an aircraft commander in the 319th; we have a photo of him in front of the B-24D "Yankee Doodle Dandy." Any surviving memories or mentions of his contribution in this book?
