Book Synopsis
This autobiography was written by the author himself. It follows his life which was dedicated to understanding technology and the universe but not the people in it. He wasn't able to do small talk until he was older, like in his 70's. He had no relationships with girls at all in high school.
Excerpts:
She was wearing a tightly pleated skirt... the guy asked her, "How do you iron that?" She became animated and told him, and their conversation took off. I could never have thought of an opening line like that. Even if I did, I would dismiss it as silly and not say it. Even if I said it and listened to her animated reply, I probably would have responded, "That's interesting." I would allow the ensuing silence to mature, and go back to reading my book.
The only remarkable thing I remember about her is that I said once, "In calculus we're computing the orbits of planets." She replied, "Wow, I couldn't do that." We waited in silence again. I knew right then that we were done for.
